I can fully understand why we are not entirely comfortable about driving on the highway. As a pretty experienced driver myself, I also found it quite a challenge to drive on the highway of North America (NA) when I was studying at the US a decade ago.

Compared with the highway in HK, cars are generally faster in NA but at the same time, the road signs are less clear and less protection is afforded to drivers e.g. shorter distance for entry and exit without dedicated merging lane and double-line protection. It was quite a leap of faith when you needed to press hard on the gas pedal.

Anyway, I am sure you will get used to it in due course. Just look out more actively before you get or out of the highway and you should be fine.
